2B, 4.5 miles
Rushing Stream Nature Preserve, Arkwright Falls and Canadaway Creek Nature Sanctuary
All three hikes fall into the category of Nature Appreciation! No rushing through Rushing Stream which "contains a climax forest of beautiful old hemlock, sugar maple, beech, yellow birch and one of the largest (if not the largest) black cherry trees in WNY". The trail here is only about a mile at most. Afterwards, we will drive about 20 minutes to Arkwright Falls. This hike is about 1.5 miles and leads to a pretty cascade on Canadaway Creek. Our third hike, Canadaway Creek Nature Sanctuary, has a nature trail which is also about 1.5 miles in length and provides a good example of stream bottomland habitat. In addition, it is a popular spot for birding during the spring and fall migrations. You may want binoculars for this hike. Wow! What a full day of 'sightseeing'! Bring water, lunch and rain gear. Plan on stopping for coffee and a bite to eat on the way home.
