On Vermont Street, near Vermont Hill Road in the town of Holland, we will hike a section of the Conservation Trail dedicated to Mabel James. She was the founder of the Conservation Trail and worked in various places as a volunteer and naturalist, one of which was Beaver Meadow. We will hike through serveral steep ravines which have been newly graded and terraced over the last two summers. There will be many stairs and ladders to climb. Our destination will be a nature trail located on property that Mabel James once lived on. A great variety of hardwoods and a sugar bush is located there as well as a pond. Bring a snack and dress for the weather. This hike is in conjunction with Beaver Meadow, an Audubon Nature Center. Audubon is celebrating their 100 year anniversary this year.
